Paraffin waxes can be subdivided into the following categories:

Paraffin waxes are obtained from crude oils where it crystallizes at low temperature where the temperature of the external environment is below the cloud point temperature. Paraffin waxes are pure and mostly linear hydrocarbons composed of very complex mixtures of normal, iso-paraffinic, and naphthenic hydrocarbon molecules. The physical differences between the various types of petroleum paraffin waxes are due to the relative proportions of the three types of hydrocarbons present and the molecular weight of these hydrocarbons. Paraffin wax has an average of molecular weight range of 350 to 520.
Paraffin waxes have properties which are dominated by the high content of highly crystalline material while small amounts of amorphous material act as a cement between the crystals and help prevent flakiness. The combustion reaches highest emissions in form of heat and light. Paraffin waxes have melting points of 100 - 165°F (38° - 74°C).
